Back to vintage

Have you ever realized that your taste in fashion changes over time?

That at times, when you look at your throw backs, you wonder what the hell was wrong with you!

I remember  times in university when I was all about colour and you could clearly see me from a kilometre away:-)  That has changed a great deal. I still put on colours -after all colour looks great on our skin- just not more than two primary colours at a go.

Currently, I am drawn to nudes and neutrals and try to be minimalistic with my jewelery as much as possible.

I am also drawn to timeless fashion. I have some clothes in my closet that have been with me since I was sixteen and I still rock them (thanks to the continous re-invention of fashion). I also love how fabric feels, how they lay on my body and the sence I get when I touch them. For this reason, I am now very much attracted to vintage clothing.

Oh yes, vintage is making a comeback and a great comeback once again!

You will notice that in many shops today, there are many bardot dresses and mummy jeans. Everyone is all over sudden rocking platforms and grooving like our grandfathers and grand mothers did!

Oh hold up, am not telling you to go dive into your grams closet yet. All am saying is that it is time to re-live the 30’s and 50’s. It is the time to be on the watch while shopping  and grab some timeless pieces from commercial shops or thrift markets. Don’t you forget to check out your mama or papa’s closet too. You may  find some durable, comfortable and unconventional staff . But above all  dear Peaches and Blues, thrift market is the answer, trust me, you can never miss a good vintage piece from Gikomba or Toy Market. Find some time in the weekend, put on some rubber shoes and hit the road to the market ready to dig on those piles of mitumba.

If you happen to pass by Rome soon, there are many vintage shops in the centre and you will be spoilt for choice.

See how  I styled some of my pieces in a fun photo shoot session  with  Vittoria Wang  as I get ready for the cold season in Rome.
